‘Udayan’ which has been following the ideals of Uday Shankar and Amala Shankar over the last 24 years under the able guidance of Mamata Shankar, with a team of sincere and dedicated group of teachers, have now embarked on having a building of their own instead of the rented premises with their never ending clauses and restrictions. |

A 10 katha plot of land has been purchased by the institution from KMDA at 318/C, Prantik Palli, Calcutta – 700107, at Rajdanga near the ‘ACROPOLIS’ complex besides the Kasba connector for this purpose. |

Messrs.Dulal Mukherjee & Associates the leading architect firm of our country have been kind enough to design a G+5 building for our institution on this plot. |
|
The estimated cost of the building is Rs.4 Crores. |

The foundation stone for the ‘Udayan Performing Arts Centre’ was laid by Smt.Amala Shankar on May 7,2008, in the presence of several dignitaries,students and staff of the institution. |

The construction job has been entrusted with Mssrs.Janardan Construction Ltd. Of Calcutta,who have begun their job on September 30,2008. |

To build an archive of ‘Uday Shankar’ collecting costumes,letters,articles,scripts of his work which are fragmented all around the world. It is our aim to inform the future generations the contributions of this legendary dancer,choreographer,painter,magician in the field of performing arts, not only in India but all over the world. |

The institution, apart from imparting training in dance shall also serve as a resource centre for research scholars in contemporary Indian dance forms. |
|
The institution shall have facilities like library,reading room and art gallery providing a forum for collaborations with other institutions in the field of performing arts. |
|
Facilities for seminars,conferences and lectures shall be available in the institution. |
|
To have cultural exchange programmes with dancers,choreographers,scholars from different countries,aiming for a joint production having participation of dancers from different parts of the world. |

The institution shall also be a venue for informal and intimate presentations of choreographers with their new work and imaginations. |

The institution shall have special short term courses for foreign students. |
|
The institute will have a scholarship programme to explore the world of contemporary dance as well as to encourage promising young talents from the Lower Income Groups of the society. |

Leading scholars,painters,scientists,dramatists,film directors,music directors,set designers,costume designers,writers will be invited to participate for brainstorming sessions,to exchange ideas,which shall expand the movement towards a multicultural art. |

Arrange dance festivals with the participation of nationally and internationally famed dance companies and artistes annually. |
